Operating Ratio

Operating Ratio = Operating Cost x 100
                 ---------------
                    Net Sales
Operating Cost = Cost of Goods Sold + Operating Expenses

Emphasises the relation between Operating Cost and Net Sales.

The purpose of this ratio is to measure the efficiency of the management as to its operations. This ratio affects the working results of the business. A high or low ratio will suggest whether the business is running efficiently or not.
